Is Time Running Out to Plan My Wedding?

Updated: Oct 14, 2021

We're seeing it now. People, who postponed their original wedding plans and figured out a short-term fix with additional plans for a bigger party later, are scooping up those future dates. So, if you are just getting into the wedding planning game, our advice is – act quick!

As always, we aim to help you during every step of your wedding journey, and this current situation is no exception. We have seen brides and grooms become extremely creative with their wedding plans. As mentioned, they are going small now – mini-monies – with options to go big later. They are choosing unique locations now with big halls planned later. That means weddings could have multiple stages as opposed to the traditional one-day affair, which means more dates being used on the calendar.

Already, there's been a spike in weddings planned for this fall. October 2020 has more events planned in that month than the previous 3 years.

While the average couple is engaged for 15 months, according to Weddingwire.com, over 85% of couples start discussing their wedding preferences—like guest count (63%) and type of venue (57%)—prior to getting engaged. Despite being so proactive, couples still say one of their biggest challenges during planning is “knowing where to start” in addition to “planning within budget.” (See our free pro planning e-book).

Today, the majority of couples are not only thinking about their wedding prior to getting engaged, but two out of three are taking action and actually starting the planning process. From gathering inspiration to researching vendors and estimating cost to dealing with the constraints of COVID-19, couples are getting a start sooner and sooner.

When it comes to planning the wedding, the bride typically takes on the bulk of the planning responsibilities. However, it’s not to say many don’t get help from their partner, parents and even a planner. In fact, nearly one in three couples hire a wedding planner. And, if planning the wedding is not already becoming competitive, think about the honeymoon afterwards. Again, with the current environment, many couples are doing 'mini-moons' prior to a full honeymoon later. That means more dates on the calendar and locations being booked than before.
